I ran the Win10 check for problems prior to doing the Win10 update. I did not get any notice that my HP Laserjet 1320 PCIe printer would not work. I suspect the problem is that I'm running it via an LPT1 connection which had worked flawlessly under Win7. I have followed all of the suggestions for resolving the problem with no positive outcome. I have done reinstall (new) of the PCIe5 print drives. I have done an install of the HP PCIe5 Universal drivers from the HP download site.

I have run the 'fix' applet as suggested in the Win10 help page on printer problems. It now appears that I have multiple drivers loaded on the Win10 system and can find no way to clean up the system faults. Short of figuring out how to do a full clean installation of Win10 on this system, is there any way to clean up the registry to remove all of what appears to be conflicting drivers? Or is there a cleaner way to fix this problem? Hi, Welcome to Microsoft Community.

If you recently upgraded to Windows 10, it's possible that the current driver was designed for a previous version of Windows. Check to see if an updated driver is available. Here's how: 1. Right click on Start and select Device Manager.

In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Right click on the each Printer USB hub and then select Uninstall. Follow the steps, then select Close. Restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver. Hope this helps.

If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help. Vinodh Kumar.V Microsoft Community. Here is the result: First, the error message is: 'Error printing on hpLaserjet 1320 PCIe. The printer couldn't print.(document name and location)' Second, I followed Method 1, Result: could not find error click for more troubleshooting.

That took me back to the page from which I made the initial request above. Third, Following Method 2 NOTE: Since the errant Laserjet printer uses LPT 1: Port for it's connection to the computer; so using Method 2 and uninstalling USB Controllers will only serve to mess up the second printer that I have attached which uses a USB connection and is working correctly. Do you have any other suggestions? Hi, My apologies for the delayed response. I suggest you to install the drivers in Compatibility mode and check if it resolves the issue. A compatibility mode is a software mechanism in which a software either emulates an older version of software in order to allow incompatible software or files to remain compatible with the computer's newer hardware or software.

Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Under Printer, expand, then right click Printer hub and select Uninstall.

If you are prompted to Confirm then Confirm. Go to the location where you had saved your downloaded setup files of the drivers and right click, then select Properties.

Select Compatibility Tab. Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode (Windows 7 or Windows 8) and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list.

Let the driver to install and then check the functionality. Please post back with the status of the issue and we will be glad to assist you further.

I found the answer talking with a local computer tech company. You might want to update your apporach to this question. It turns out that Win10's most recent update no longer recognizes LPT ports. Therefore the only solution for this problem with older HP printers (or any older printer that uses an LPT port for that matter) it to purchase an Parallel to USB 2.0 cable which does the conversion for Win10.

I've had installed Win 10 64-bit on my pc & my HP laserjet 1320 work just fine through parallel (LPT) port using PCL5 or PCL5e driver. In fact, I had to use parallel port since its USB port cannot be recognized by Win 10 (or Win 7 on the other pc)! We just installed the Laserjet 1320 USB on the newest Windows 64bit but it was a big hassle and trial and error troubleshooting. The key to the entire process is to click Remove Device on the 1320 that is not recognized in the Devices and Printers window in Control Panel and unplug the actual printer from the computer.

Then you Add Printer new and make a local Laserjet 1320 printer where you select the HP Laserjet 1320 PCL5 driver in the devices list and just set it to LPT1 local printer - making a non-working printer. Do not plug the printer in yet. When you are successful the non-working 1320 printer appears in the Devices and Printers window with the correct printer graphic icon. Then keep the Devices and Printers window open and plug in the Laserjet 1320 cable into a powered USB port on the computer tower - not into a USB hub. Then Windows10 pnp somehow works properly, and another instance of the printer finally shows up next to the non-working printer. Then delete the non-working 1320 printer out of the Devices and Printers screen.
