The REAL Top Gear crew returned one last time for commentary. The game was beautiful and carried over from previous Forza gameplay, and 'realistic' physics were still frustratingly challenging. Also, it was total genius to reward you with goodies for playing Forza 2 through 4 and Forza Horizon. But that's where the fun ended. The rest of the game was disappointing to say the least. Real money was added to make real bad player real good in the form of a pay to win scam so disgusting it made pay to win mobile phone game developers shake their heads in disbelief. I could rant more, but it failed and later Forza titles did away with this cash grab.
The shame is that this scam was never patched out of Forza 5, remaining there as a constant reminder of how Microsoft once thought gamers were so stupid that we would actually pay them to win a game. Score: 5.5/10. Sounds and looks good, but thats about it. As a driving game, it simulates the experience poorly.
Not terrible, but not good. Game starts you on full handicap which messes with steering and acceleration if you dont drive the way it thinks you should. Playing on pro settings made it better, but the observed speed doesnt match the slickness of handling and its incredibly easy to get spun out on even simple turns. I didnt have an issue with the bots beyond the fact that the game insists they are not bots. They didnt seem to change much between the 5 difficulties I played. The menu design is annoying and controls are unintuitive for someone playing for the first time (me).
I could find no configuration menu or button layout in game. Id give it a 2/10 for a semi-decent racing game with poor racing and a 6/10 for a pretty car in a room simulator. And Im not even sure it deserves that 6, with its limited cars and features. Just glad xbox gave it free, so I didnt waste any money. This game has no feel of speed, your doing 120mph and it looks and feels like 40, but the tires dont stick like its 40. Something is wrong with the way the game handles.

The drivatar difficulty system is an absolute joke. Im bot the best driver on a console, but at the lowest difficulty i should be able to blow by every drivatar on the track. Thats not the case, in fact nothing much changes when you change the drivatar difficulty. Tried bumping the diff up and down the whole range and besides the speed sense sucking, nothing actually changed with the drivatars and the way they drive. Ive got 5 other forza games under my belt and to be honest the current gen forzas all have really sucky difficulty settings and the ai cars will slam into you all the time in the worst possible spots.

I never played the Forza series until 4. That was an amazing game.
It was the pinnacle of innovation a racing SIM needed and had copious amounts of content. I was overwhelmed as no other racing game I played came close to the many unique features that were fleshed out. Such as the player market place where you could basically sell anything from custom cars complete with created paint jobs and tune kits, to intricate decals. A garage that was convienent to use/showcase. A clan system, and detailed records of your races times and your friends.
Then Forza 5 came along, which degraded or outright removed most of those things. On to Forza 5 without the comparison, I see a rather stripped game. There seems to be only about ten tracks. After level 5 you'll begin to dread the repetition of familar views and layouts. There's plenty of cars ripped out of the game so you can buy them as packs. Oh yeah, microtransactions. It's going away from a SIM to an arcade racer.
That sells, like Horizon.
